An unhurried walking tour of the west coast of Sardinia where each day brings new discoveries amongst the charming landscapes of the Sinis Peninsula and untamed coastline of Costa Verde.
A combination of scenery, history and stories that cannot fail to captivate any visitor.
Day 1: Arrival in Sardinia
Individual arrivals at the hotel or by transfer where requested, and check into rooms; briefing on the hiking tour to be conducted over the following days.
On request we will also organise an optional walking tour around the old city of Tharros, which was founded in the 8th century BC and finally abandoned in 1050 AD.
A fascinating archeological that you can look out over from the terrace overlooking the sea at the tip of the Sinis Peninsula.
Distance: approx. 5 km - Overall ascent approx. 80m
Day 2: Sinis Peninsula loop
From the vicinity of San Giovanni di Sinis passing through the Oasis di Seu to Is Arustas beach, where the sand ressembles grains of rice in pink, green and white hues.
An explosion of colours complemented by the green and azure tones of the sea along this stretch of beach a few hundred metres long.
Distance: approx. 20 km – Total ascent approx. 30m
Day 3: Food and wine tour
Food and wine tour around the Cabras area to discover the wine and culinary traditions of this part of Sardinia.
After lunch, transfer to Montevecchio – the most important mining area in the Southwest of Sardinia.
Distance: approx 5 km - Total ascent approx. 30m
Day 4: The Dunes of Piscinas
Walking tour passing through the ruins of the old mining community to the desert region of Piscinas, where dunes formed by the natural effects of sea and wind can reach up to 120 metres high.
A desert landscape nestling in the midst of the green Mediterranean woodland of Costa Verde.
This coastline is approximately 47km long and it is called Costa Verde – the Green Coast – because of the evergreen woods comprising mastic, broom, arbutus and juniper that cover the area from the mountains down to the sea.
In the late afternoon transfer to Portixeddu
Distance: approx. 15km - Total ascent approx. 200m
Day 5: Scivu loop
After breakfast, you wil start a round trip that will bring you to Scivu, known as the ‘Singing Beach’ because of the sound the sand often makes when you walk on it.
Along the way, you will pass close to Capo Pecora where the pink hue of the granite contrasts with the turquoise of the sea.
Distance: approx. 19km -Total ascent approx. 500m
Day 6: Nebida
Walking tour from Buggerru as far as Cala Domestica across the Planu Sartu plateau.
Once referred to as Petit Paris, Buggerru became a lively mining and cultural centre when mining companies moved into the area at the end of the 19th century and established a fascinating cultural environment in this isolated part of Sardinia, including cinemas and theatres.
Distance: approx. 6km - Total ascent approx. 340m
Day 7: Pan di Zucchero and Cagliari
After breakfast you will start your loop around Nebida as far as Masua, where you can marvel at the Pan di Zucchero (Sugar Loaf) stack that rises out of the sea, and the Porto Flavia mining complex.
This was a highly enterprising engineering operation that extracted mineral ore out at sea to be transported to land by steam ship.
Distance: approx. 12km - Total ascent approx. 430m
Day 8: Departure
The adventure is at an end, but if you have time you might like to pay a visit to Cagliari and its historic city centre.
